The municipality of the West Bank city of Salfit started on Friday a campaign to fight the wild pigs that were released by the Israeli army in the area.
The boars, most likely rounded up from some part of Israel, were dumped into the Palestinian area by the Israeli army and have been threatening both children and adults. Boars have been known to kill people in some instances. The boars have also been tearing up Palestinian farmland and crops, ravaging the only source of income for the mainly-farming community.
Local residents in the area said they have seen an Israeli truck releasing herds of wild pigs, and the residents believe this is done on purpose, to force residents to leave their land by terrorizing them and destroying their farming crops.
According to municipality sources, this is not a new problem that residents face, but the numbers of pigs are increasing rapidly.
