Israeli National Infrastructure Minister, Benjamin Ben-Eliezer, said on
Wednesday that the Israeli Army Chief of Staff, Dan Halutz should
follow the footsteps of I Northern Command Chief Maj.-Gen. Udi Adam,
and submit his resignation, Israeli Ynetnews reported.

 
Eliezer stated that Halutz should “look into the eyes of the bereaved families, and the Israeli public, and resign”.

“I greatly respect Halutz, but i expect him to say I am responsible, and leave the Israeli Army”,  Eliezer stated, “This act will make him a responsible commander who is worthy to be a role model”.

Eliezer added that the was has costed Israel a lot and that the Israeli people paid a heavy price, “The army should provide security to the people”.

Eliezer also said that Halutz is not like the Israeli Defense Minister, Amir Peretz, “who is here one day, and absent the other”.

Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli sources reported that the Israeli Army Northern Command Chief, Major-General Udi Adam, requested the Israeli Army Chief of Staff, Dan Halutz, to relief him from his duties; Halutz agreed.
 
Senior Israeli army officers agreed to find a replacement for Adam as soon as possible. Israeli Ynetnews reported that Adam was sent in during war to command a ground offensive.
