Palestinians protested restrictions on West Bank residents not allowed
to enter Israel to pray at Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem for Friday
prayers.
Friday morning hundreds of Palestinians gathered at military checkpoints, Atarot and A-Ram, leading to Jerusalem and threw rocks at soldiers stationed there. In a typical display of force, soldiers responded with stun grenades, batons and rubber bullets, and detained several protesters, according to Army Radio. No injuries were reported.
Since the start of Ramadan three weeks ago, Israeli soldiers have increased their presence in the Old City of Jerusalem in preparation for possible disruptions.
