Khaled Mashal, political bureau chief of the Hamas party, conducted a
brief visit to Qatar and held a meeting with the prince of Qatar,
Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, on the developments in the
Palestinians territories including the rising tension between Hamas and
Fateh.
Qatar is attempting to mediate between the two factions in order to achieve an agreement and reduce the tension.
Senior sources at the Hamas party reported that a meeting between senior leaders of Hamas and Fateh in the Syrian capital, Damascus, is currently being prepared. The sources added that the meeting will be under Syrian-Qatari, and Spanish supervision.
According to the sources, the meeting would discuss the formation of a National Unity Government based on the national interests.
Hamas said that the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, insists on forming a government of technocrats headed by Moneeb Al Masry.
