The Federation of Unions of Health Care Professionals continues to
strike against unpaid salaries despite a recent government plan to pay
all salaries owed to the health care employees since the beginning of
April.

According to Minister of Planning Samir Abu Eisha, the plan was designed to ensure workers’ rights and similarly citizen’s rights to medical services, however the unions issued a statement of complaint Wednesday that the government has ignored the unions’ demands and delayed an agreement for political reasons.

After 66 days of meetings, including the last which accepted the government’s payment draft plan, the unions continue to strike, nearly paralyzing the health care system. In addition, emergency services have now been suspended.

Abu Eisha commented that although it is the staff's right to strike, it does not mean that one so devastating in its effects on human life should continue indefinitely.
