Israeli sources reported on Wednesday evening that an Israeli security
guard was stabbed in his neck and suffered serious wounds at the
Qalandia checkpoint area, north of Jerusalem. Troops detained one
Palestinian resident in his twenties in suspicion of attacking the
soldiers, but released him later on.
The guard, 25 year-old, was treated on the scene by medics before he was transferred to Haddassah Ein Karim hospital in Jerusalem. His injury was described as serious, and was moved to the emergency unit, the Israeli Ynetnews reported.
Israeli Border Guard policemen took a Palestinian man in his twenties prisoner in suspicion of connection to the attack, but the man was released later on due to lack of evidence.
Also, Israeli sources added that three residents were seen fleeing the place; the army launched a search campaign in the area.
Meanwhile, Israeli online daily Haaretz reported that “the Palestinian emerged among a line of car lined at the checkpoint, and stabbed the soldier”.
