Medical sources in Gaza Strip hospitals reported receiving 30 bodies of Palestinians killed inside concentration camps run by Israeli forces, whose bodies had been retained by Israeli authorities.
The bodies and remains of the 30 Palestinian detainees arrived at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis after being released by Israeli occupation authorities as part of the exchange deal. Most of the bodies showed signs of torture, according to medical sources.
The International Red Cross facilitated the return of the bodies.
A mother searches for her son’s remains, struggling to identify him among decomposed and mutilated bodies in Gaza.
This brings the total number of Palestinian bodies returned to Palestine by Israeli forces to 225.
This is the fifth batch of bodies of Palestinians released by the occupation since the ceasefire agreement in Gaza on October 11.
Most of the bodies showed signs of torture, burning, and execution, and most of them had their hands and eyes tied, in addition to their features being completely disfigure due to the severity of the torture, which prevented the desperate families looking for loved ones from being able to identify most of them.
During the last release of mutilated Palestinian bodies two weeks ago, Al Jazeera reported that “Israeli torture of Palestinian detainees in its jails has been common for years, and have increased since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza, with some Israeli politicians even defending the practice.
“At least 75 Palestinian detainees have also died in Israeli jails since October 7, 2023, according to the United Nations.
“One particularly notable documented incident of abuse was the gang rape of a Palestinian prisoner by guards at the notorious Sde Teiman detention facility in Israel last year. Verified video shows Israeli prison guards using their shields to hide from the camera before proceeding to rape the victim, who was left unable to walk, Israeli media reported.”
Also this week, R. Powell reports, “Israel’s military detention system is once again under fierce global scrutiny after authorities opened a criminal investigation this week — not into the uniformed reservists who raped a blindfolded Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman military camp in mid-2024, but into suspected whistle-blowers believed to have leaked the surveillance footage.
“The assault, recorded continuously for roughly 15 minutes, occurred while the detainee was handcuffed, blindfolded, and physically restrained.
“The perpetrators were IDF reservists assigned as detention guards inside Sde Teiman — not civilian Israel Prison Service employees. Because the site is run by the army, responsibility flows up the military chain of command, increasing exposure to international criminal prosecution.”
