The U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice met Sunday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, but did not make a statement either supporting or rejecting the Palestinian unity government.
The government, formed after months of internal fighting among Palestinians, is an attempt to please the international community after the U.S. and Israel rejected the results of last year's democratic election in Palestine.
Rice stated that the U.S. is in line with Israel on "the broad issues", but did not flatly reject the unity government.
Ehud Olmert, the Israeli Prime Minister, did flatly reject the Palestinian unity government in a statement earlier on Sunday.
Rice is in the region for tri-lateral talks, which are to be held Monday between Israel, the Palestinian Authority, and the U.S.
When asked if the U.S. would support a boycott of the Palestinian unity government, Rice did not respond.
