“Haniyeh is a terrorist”, Olmert said, “He is a terrorist who became the Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority”.
He also claimed that funds came from abroad to the Palestinian Authority but were transferred to the armed wing of Hamas “for the explicit purpose of carrying out terrorist attacks”, according to Olmert.
Olmert did not reveal further details regarding the claimed transfer.
Also, a senior Israeli source stated that “Haniyeh was directly involved in the decision to make the transfer”, Israeli online daily Haaretz reported, “The transfer took place in recent weeks, and was not taken from the Palestinian government”.
Meanwhile, an aide to Haniyeh slammed Olmert's statements, and said that these statements are “confused and irresponsible”, Haaretz added.
The aide stated that “it seems that Olmert is provoked and angered by the Arab and international support for the Unity Government”.
The aide added that “the real terrorist is the one who kills children, builds settlements and invades villages and refugee camps, the terrorist is not Haniyeh”.
