Roman Catholic Patriarch and Archbishop of Jeruslaem Monseigneur Michael Sabbah urged the international community to invest more effort to end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land, which has been ongoing for 40 years.
Sabbah said in his speech to the Christian denominations who are celebrating the Easter holidays, that "as long as the Israeli occupation in the Holy Land is ongoing, the whole world will suffer."
He called for more love and forgiveness among the human race quoting several Bible verses stressing this value. Sabbah also stressed that the only solution for this conflict lies in coexistence on this land without interfering with each other's internal affairs, and both sides having a genuine intention to reach peace.
Sabbah stressed that people of the three monolithic religions who exist on this land (the Holy Land) should accept each other as children of Abraham and live equally in peace. Christians in Palestine usually celebrate Easter on two different calendars and join the celebrations on every leap year. This year, 2007, although not a leap year, Christians all over Palestine will celebrate Easter on April 8th.
