Secretary-General of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), Nayif Hawatma, met on Friday with Amro Mousa, secretary-general of the Arab league, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.During the meeting, Hawatma said that the ongoing conflict between Fateh and Hamas should come to an end, and that this conflict comes as part of power struggle between the two movements.
He said that both movements must adhere to the Cairo agreement, signed in 2005, and the National Unity Document of 2006, since all factions, and prominent national and social figures, signed the two agreements
Hawatma also demanded Arab and regional countries to stop interfering in the internal Palestinian politics as these issues are causing further division and conflicts among the Palestinian factions.
He called for implementing the decision of the Arab Foreign Ministers, who met in June 5 and September 5, 2007, and in February 2008, and called for ending the conflict in Gaza.
Moreover, Hawatma said that national dialogue and implementing the Cairo agreement are the paths for ending the destructive internal conflict, and will lead to establishing internal unity which will enable the Palestinians to focus their struggle against the ongoing Israeli occupation and the ongoing construction of settlements.
Regarding the issue of truce and the sealed border terminals in the Gaza Strip, Hawatma said that any truce with Israel should be bilateral and should be implemented in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
He added that the siege on Gaza must end and Israel must stop its violations.
He called on the Arab countries to practice pressure on the international community to provide the Palestinian people with international protection.
On his side, Amro Mousa, said that the internal Palestinian divisions threaten the national Palestinian rights and aspirations to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Mousa added that these divisions also threaten the internationally recognized Right of Return of all Palestinian refugees.
He called for implementing the Arab Peace Initiative and all Security Council resolutions in order to end the Arab-Israeli conflict and achieve a comprehensive peace deal.
