Visiting Cairo, member of the Political Bureau of the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Jamil Majdalawi, held a series of meetings with Egyptian leaders to ease the tension between Egypt and Hamas in Gaza, and to find a way to prepare the atmosphere for signing a Palestinian unit deal supervised by Egypt. PFLP’s member of the Central Committee, Jamil Mizhir, stated that Majdalawi held a series of talks with Egyptian leaders, and that similar talks will be held in the coming days with Egypt’s Intelligence Chief, Omar Suleiman, and a number of senior Egyptian leaders to discuss guarantees that would lead to a comprehensive unity deal.
Mizhir told the Al- Quds Net news agency that the visit of Al Majdalawi is part of efforts conducted by the PFLP to achieve reconciliation.
Before heading to Cairo, Majdalawi met with Hamas leaders and listened to their comments and reservations on the Egyptian document for Palestinian national unity.
He said that the PFLP wants to find mutual points of agreement in order to end the current state on internal divisions in Palestine.
Mizhir added that his meetings with Hamas leaders in Gaza discussed guarantees to ensure a successful unity deal, and that the coming days will be crucial towards this goal.
He also said that Palestinian factions would be holding a meeting in Gaza on Sunday to discuss the unity file and the efforts to reach a unified stance towards the Egyptian document.
