At the end of his Middle East tour, U.S. Middle East Peace Envoy, George Mitchell, held a meeting on Saturday with the Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak. Mitchell toured the region in an attempt to ensure proximity talks between Israel and the Palestinians do not hit another obstacle.
Mitchell did not provide details on what happened behind closed doors. The U.S. envoy and Mubarak discussed the U.S. mediation efforts.
He just told reporters that Washington was comfortable with Israel’s decision to “ease the siege on Gaza,” and added that “the current situation is intolerable.”
On Thursday, Mitchell met with Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and also held a meeting with Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas.
Israel claimed that it is going to take measures that would ease the four year siege on Gaza by allowing the entry of civilian products.
