The Ma’an News Agency reports that the Israeli army has destroyed wells and water pumps in 3 Jordan Valley villages on Tuesday. The villages of al-Akrabanyah, an-Nasaryah and Beit Hassan all allegedly had the equipment confiscated or destroyed. The villages are apparently located in Area A. The destruction of wells and associated equipment in an occupied territory is illegal under article 53 of the 4th Geneva convention.
Many communities in the Jordan Valley suffer as a result of regular demolitions by Israeli forces. It is frequently proposed that Israel would like to annex the region, ostensibly for security purposes.
The Jordan Valley has large quantities of rich, fertile land and houses several extensive agricultural settlements. Palestinian agricultural activity in the area has been severely limited, in part due to poor access to water.
