Jordan’s King Abdullah II, welcomed on Thursday the head of the Hamas Political Bureau, Khaled Mashal, and his accompanying Hamas officials, in the Jordanian capital, Amman, and held talks on developments in the region.Jordan’s official news agency reported that Jordan is actively involved in the efforts to find a comprehensive and fair solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and that Jordan considers the Palestinian cause as a central issue, and as the core conflict in the region due to the ongoing Israeli occupation.
King Abdullah stated that Jordan supports the Palestinian right to independence and statehood on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and added that peace talks must be based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The King also said that the Jordanian-Palestinian relations are very strong, and that Jordan will continue to perform its duties towards the Palestinian people suffering under Israeli occupation in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
On his part, Khaled Mashal, said that Hamas rejects all attempts to settle the Palestinians in other countries, and insists on the internationally-guaranteed Right of Return of all Palestinian refugees, and the Palestinian right to an independent, contiguous, and sovereign state.
