Welcome to Palestine Today, a service of the International Middle East Media Center, www.imemc.org, for Wednesday December 26h, 2012.
Israeli troops attack Palestinian political detainees and hand out demolishing orders to Palestinian villagers in southern West Bank. These stories, and more, coming up, stay tuned.
The Palestinian political Prisoners Society reported on Wednesday that at least four prisoners were injured during an Israeli troops attack on them at the military’s Megiddo prison
The Society said that troops stormed sections nine, six and four of Megiddo and assaulted the detainees. The four injured were from section sour, the Society added.
Palestinian prisoners announced last week that they will go on hunger strike at the start of the new year if Israeli continue its administrative detention policy and ill-treatment of Palestinian political Prisoners.
Also on Wednesday Israeli army forces invaded the village of Idhna near the southern West Bank city of Hebron and handed out 10 demolitions orders to residents there.
The Israeli army claimed that the homes are built without its permission. Palestinian residents are rarely given permission to build homes on their lands at areas under the total control of the Israeli military occupation.
Later on Tuesday night a gag order was lifted on the arrest of what Israel claims to be a Palestinian cell that planned the abduction of an Israeli soldier to negotiate his release in exchange for the release of Ahmad Sa’adat, secretary-general of the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine PFLP.
Israel holds Saadat responsible for the assassination of far-right Israeli Tourism Minister, Rehavam Zeevi, who was killed, in 2001, in Jerusalem by four members of the PFLP; Israel claims Sa’adat ordered the assassination. On 25 Dec 2008, an Israeli court sentenced him to thirty years in prison.
