The Israeli government, headed by Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the “Civil Administration” in the occupied West Bank, approved the construction of additional 296 units in the Bet El settlement, north of the central West Bank city of Ramallah.Israeli media sources reported that a committee in charge of West Bank settlement at the “Civil Administration Office”, in charge of implementing Israeli government decisions and policies in the West Bank, approved a plan for a new “neighborhood” in Bet El, by constructing new 12 apartment buildings in the settlement.
The sources added that the plan calls for the removal of an Israeli Border Police base so that its location can be used for the new constructions.
Regional Commander of the Central District of the Israeli Army, Nitzan Elon, approved the plan and handed the signed documents to the settlers in Bet El, the Maan News Agency has reported.
According to the new plan, Israel will be constructing four buildings, each containing ten floors, and each building will have 40 apartments, in addition to constructing eight apartment buildings, each building will have 8 floors, containing 17 apartments, Israel Walla News Agency have reported.
Israel’s illegal settlement construction and expansion activities in the occupied West Bank, including in occupied East Jerusalem, come in direct violation of International Law and the Fourth Geneva Convention, to which Israel is a signatory.
The Palestinian Authority in the West Bank had to quit direct talks with Israel due to its ongoing settlements activities, and due to its ongoing violations against the residents and their property in occupied Palestine.
