On Sunday, settlers from the illegal outpost of Mitzpe Yair attacked Omar Jibril Ahmad Hoshiya, 28, as he was tending to his animals. He suffered several broken teeth and extensive bruising, and was taken to a hospital in Yatta for treatment. Rateb al-Jabour, a coordinator of the popular committee against settlements in Yatta, descrcibed this latest attack as part of a strategy used by the settlers to take over more Palestinian land.
Recently, Navi Pillay, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, told the Human Rights Council in Geneva that, “settler violence continues to be perpetrated with impunity”. She also noted that the Israeli authorities rarely investigate incidents of settler violence, and that even when investigations were opened “only 9 per cent of the investigations opened resulted in an indictment.”
