Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, on Thursday, called upon the international community to exert serious and considerable pressure on Israel to release the administrative prisoners who have been on hunger strike for fifty consecutive days, according to WAFA Palestinian News Agency.He additionally stressed the need to take necessary steps in obliging Israel to stop expansion of colonial settlements on Palestinian land.
Hamdallah: “The U.S. government, many European and Arab countries and the United Nations along with the Quartet have expressed their full support for the new national consensus government, while Israel continues to use it as a pretext not to reach a real breakthrough in the peace process.”
These statements came during a recent meeting with Swedish Consul General Axel Wernhoff, on the occasion of the end of his tenure at the Prime Minister’s office in Ramallah, where Hamdallah thanked the official for his country’s ongoing support of the Palestinian struggle through developmental projects, especially in the ‘C’ areas.
Wernhoff congratulated PM Hamdallah on the formation of the new consensus government, WAFA further reports.
He emphasizing Sweden’s support, noting that UN advocacy for the Palestinian cause is considered to be a powerful tool, and adding that Palestine has been able, in just the past few years, to change public opinion within the international community.
