Over 120 Palestinian detainees imprisoned by the state of Israel have now entered the 60th day of hunger strike, in protest against the policy of Administrative Detention, in which prisoners are held indefinitely without charge or trial.
Israel Prison Service has transferred hunger strikers by the dozen to hospitals, following marked deterioration in their health.
Meanwhile, IPS refuses to respond for detainees’ demands including ending solitary confinement and providing for their basic life needs, according to Al Ray. Rather than encourage hope by allowing family members to visit striking detainees, administration has chosen to forbid such visits, in addition to measures by the Israeli Ministry of Health in preventing doctors to check on the prisoners.
Israeli parliament members seek to vote in favor of a law which facilitates the use of force-feeding, after prisoners refused to break their strike.
According to human rights organizations, the number of administrative detainees is on the rise.
