On Wednesday, Palestinian members of the Israeli Knesset were slammed for holding a moment of silence to honor the victims of the ongoing violence, while Palestinian residents of Jerusalem were arrested for posting videos depicting a rocket attack on southern Israel.
During his speech on Wednesday at the plenum, MK Basal Ghattas (National Democratic Assembly) asked the Knesset to hold a ‘moment of silence’ to honor the victims of the latest Israeli offensive on Gaza. Ghattas was later slammed for this request by fellow parliament members and the Israeli prime minister, none of whom were present at the Knesset when the moment of silence was held.
‘Although I should introduce an economic bill related to VAT certificates, I can not begin without considering a political situation in which the fire continues and innocent civilians are killed,’ said Ghattas, explaining the reasons he asked members of the parliament to hold a minute of silence.
Likud MK Miri Regev said in response that “this is a disgrace. They should stand there and condemn Hamas for forcing children and families not to leave areas the IDF wants them to leave. The Arab MKs support Hamas, and are also responsible for the victims Hamas creates.”
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu also condemned the moment of silence in a series of heated comments to Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein (Likud).
‘Knesset members should condemn the actions of Hamas, which uses Gazans as human shields’, Netanyahu stated.
