The UN Human Rights Council has appointed a three-member panel to investigate possilbe humanitarian law violations during Israel’s Gaza assault, according to Ma’an.The commission is to be headed by William Schabas of Canda, an international law professor at Middlesex University in London. The other members include Amal Alamuddin, a British-Lebanese lawyer, and Doudou Diene of Senegal, UN former Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, New York-based news agency Bloomberg has reported.
An open letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon signed by a number human rights experts, including former UN Special Rappoteur Richard Falk, has been posted at the Palestinian News Network (PNN).
