Former Vice President of the European Parliament and Italian Parliamentary Member, Luisa Morgantini, has stated that European campaigns in solidarity with the Palestinian people are increasing, particularly after the war crimes committed, by Israel, in Gaza. The statement comes as Morgantini met with Deputy Minister of Local Government, Mazen Ghnaim, also head of the national committee for the commemoration of the International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
According to WAFA Palestinian News & Info Agency, the national committee was formed in accordance with the UN General Assembly resolution A6812 issued on November 26, 2013 – designated the year 2014 as a year for solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Gunaim briefed Morgantini on activities and events sponsored by the committee, as well as its interaction with the international community. Also discussed were preparations to hold an international conference for worldwide organizations working in Palestine, to be held in Palestine on November 20.
WAFA further reports that Morgantini says she will work with all Italian and European events in preparation for the conference, and that she will encourage Italian municipalities to become involved in the conference, with the intention of laying a foundation stone for sustainable solidarity with the Palestinian people.
This, she said, would compel Israel to abide by the international laws to which it is signatory.
In related news, WAFA also reports that Palestinian Minister of Finance, Shukri Bushara, has signed an agreement with the French Consul-General in Palestine, Hervé Magro, under which France will allocate €8 million in support of the Palestinian budget.
