Welcome to Palestine Today, a service of the International Middle East Media Center, www.imemc.org, for Wednesday August 20th, 2014.

Death toll in Gaza reaches more than 2000 as Israeli bombardment continues, meanwhile in the West Bank Israeli soldiers destroy residents’ homes. These stories, and more, coming up, stay tuned.

Palestinian medical sources have reported, Wednesday, that seventeen more Palestinians, including children, have been killed, and dozens injured in the resumed Israeli offensive on the Palestinians in the besieged coastal region. One died of his wounds.

Also on Wednesday, thousands of Palestinians participated in the funeral ceremonies of Palestinians killed in the ongoing Israeli bombardment that led to more than twenty Palestinians on Tuesday, including the wife and child of Mohammad Deif, general leader of the al-Qassam Brigades of Hamas.

Israeli media sources said the army intended to assassinate Deif, and bombarded the home despite the fact it failed to locate Deif, and did not know whether Deif was there in the first place.

The Palestinian ministry of health announced that the Israeli ongoing attack on Gaza since July 8th has left more than 2041 civilians killed and at least 10300 more injured.

Elsewhere, Israeli soldiers invaded, on Wednesday, several Palestinian Bedouin communities east of the Taybeh village, east of the central West Bank city of Ramallah, and the Mikhmas nearby village, and demolished several structures and tents.

Local sources reported that the soldiers demolished four sheds east of Taybeh and three others in Mikhmas area, after invading them. The residents never received any notice or legal documents from “Civil Administration Office”, run by the Israeli military in the occupied West Bank.

The soldiers prevented journalists from entering the area, and tried to confiscate their equipment after preventing them from even documenting the attacks, even from a distance.

In related news, Dozens of Israeli soldiers and members of the Jerusalem City Council invaded, Wednesday, the Ein al-Louza area, in Silwan town, in occupied East Jerusalem, and handed a family orders for the destruction of their buildings. Israel alleges the constructions are without a permit, and that they are located in what it described as “a green area”, although the family owns the land.

The two buildings were built more than ten years ago, and are home to 20 family members. The family already paid more than 650.000 NIS in fines, and repeatedly tried to obtain all legal documents but Israel kept rejecting their applications, media sources reported.

Also on Wednesday, Member of the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Khalida Jarrar, stated she received a military order from the Israeli army ordering her to leave Ramallah to Jericho within 24 hours, and that the order states she won’t be allowed back home until further notice.

Jarrar said she refused to sign the order, and that she intends to challenge the army by staying in her home in her al-Biereh town, near the central West Bank city of Ramallah.
