Israeli forces, on Tuesday morning, shot dead a Palestinian youth who reportedly stabbed an Israeli soldier on a checkpoint north of Hebron, southern West Bank. The youth, who was identified as Ahmad Kawazba (17), from Si’ir village south of Hebron, was killed at the Gush Etzion settlement junction, to the north of Hebron, while the soldier sustained light wounds.
His identity, according to the PNN, was first mistaken for Wissam Deriyya (21) by Palestinian media, but was later confirmed as Kawazba.
The soldier was treated on the spot by Magen David Adom paramedics, and moved to the Shaare Zedek medical center in Jerusalem, while the Palestinian was left to bleed on the ground.
The Israeli military told the Palestinian Authority that the boy’s corpse will be returned later today and not detained.
The current tensions have started since October first, due to repetitive Israeli settler attacks on Al-Aqsa mosque, the third holiest place in Islam, and Israeli restrictions over Palestinian entrance, in addition to the Douma arson attack which killed a baby and his parents.
Since then, over 140 Palestinians have been killed, including 27 children and 7 women. Some 15,000 have been injured by live ammunition, rubber-coated metal bullets and teargas.
On the Israeli side, 24 settlers were killed in attacks or Israeli mistaken bullets.
