A 25-year-old Palestinian detainee died, on Tuesday, in Israeli custody, the second detainee to die in less that 24 hours.
According to a statement from the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) and the Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, Arafat Yasser Hamdan, 25, died in the “Ofer” detention center located southwest of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank.
The statement added that Hamdan, a resident of Beit Sira, west of Ramallah, was abducted from his home on October 22, 2023, during a mass Israeli campaign of incarcerating Palestinian young men in the occupied West Bank.
On Monday, 58-year-old Administrative Detainee, Omar Hamza Daraghmeh, died in the “Megiddo” prison in Israel.
Daraghmeh, a leader of the Hamas resistance movement, and his son were abducted by Israeli forces on October 9, 2023, and transferred to Administrative Detention for a period of six months.
In related news, the Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs published a report detailing the recent actions taken against the Palestinian prisoners held in the “Ofer” prisoner since the October 7 escalation of hostilities against the besieged Gaza Strip
The report showed that the occupation prison administration has imposed severe restrictions and penalties against Palestinian prisoners since the escalation of hostilities against the besieged Gaza Strip on October 7.
It added that electricity is being turned off in all departments between 6 am and 6 pm, and all electrical appliances, including televisions, hot plates, and kettles were removed.
Furthermore, the prison authorities cut hot water in some sections, providing 20 minute breaks or denying breaks, closing the kitchen and only providing 2 small daily meals instead of three.
Rather than releasing prisoners whose sentences have expired, Israeli authorities transferred them to Administrative Detention, and increased the number of detainees to nine in a room, instead of five, with random inspections.
