The Palestinian Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Committee has confirmed Saturday the death of another political prisoner in an Israeli prison, bringing the number of detainees who died in captivity since October 7 to six.
The Committee stated that Thaer Samih Abu Assab (38 years old) from Qarawat Bani Hassan town, northwest of Salfit in the central West Bank, had died in an Israeli occupation prison.
The Committee’s head, Qaddoura Fares, reported in a telephone call to the Palestinian News & Info Agency (WAFA) that Tha’er, from Qalqilia Governorate in the northwestern West Bank, had died in the Negev Desert detention camp, noting that he had been imprisoned since May 27, 2005, and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Fares confirmed in a statement issued by the Committee that the occupation is conducting systematic and premeditated assassination operations against detainees.
The Committee held all countries that support this illegal and immoral Israeli occupation and oppression of Palestine responsible for the ongoing crimes, especially the continuing genocide against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, for failing to act and end this illegal occupation and ethnic cleansing.
Last Tuesday, the detainee, Ahmad Muhammad Mer’ey (33 years old), from the town of Qarawat Bani Hassan in Salfit Governorate, also died in the “Megiddo” Israeli prison.
On November 6, detainee Majed Ahmed Zaqqoul (32 years old), from the Gaza Strip, in addition to another detainee from the Gaza Strip whose identity is not yet known, also died in Israeli prisons.
On October 23, the detainee Omar Daraghma (58 years old) from Tubas and Arafat Hamdan (25 years old) from Ramallah died in Israeli prisons more than 24 hours apart.
The recent deaths bring the number of Palestinians who died or were killed in Israeli prisons, detention centers, and interrogation facilities since 1967 to 243, including 17 whose bodies are still being held by the illegal Israeli occupation authorities.
Since the start of the comprehensive aggression against our people on the seventh of last October, detainees in Israeli occupation prisons have been subjected to physical and verbal abuse and torture and the deprivation of the necessities of life.
