Palestine has formally requested an urgent extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives to discuss collective Arab and international action against the latest Israeli government decisions, which Palestinian officials describe as aggressive and unlawful steps aimed at deepening annexation, in addition to construction and expansion of illegal Israeli colonies.
Ambassador Muhannad Al‑Aklouk, Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, said the request comes in response to a series of recent Israeli decisions that seek to expand colonial projects, demolish Palestinian homes, seize private and public land, and transfer the powers of the Hebron municipality to the so‑called “Civil Administration” of the occupation authorities.
He stated that these measures that directly undermine the legal and historical status of the Ibrahimi Mosque and stressed that these “null and void” decisions constitute a continuation of Israel’s comprehensive aggression against the Palestinian people, their land, holy sites, and property, and represent a deepening of annexation and expansionist policies.
Al‑Aklouk called on Arab member states to act at all bilateral and multilateral levels to halt these Israeli measures, which he warned threaten regional and international security and stability.
Egypt also condemned the Israeli decisions, saying they aim to entrench the illegal annexation of occupied Palestinian land in the West Bank.
In a statement on Monday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the measures constitute a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions, a deliberate undermining of the existing legal and historical status, and a clear breach of the 1997 Hebron Agreement.
The statement added that the decisions effectively seek to cement annexation, expand colonial projects, and impose full Israeli control over Palestinian land.
Egypt reaffirmed its complete rejection of all annexation and settlement policies and unilateral actions that undermine prospects for peace and the two‑state solution, warning that such measures fuel further tension and instability across the occupied Palestinian territory and the wider region.
Cairo urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, halt these violations immediately, ensure respect for international humanitarian law, and protect the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self‑determination and an independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Arab League also condemned the Israeli cabinet’s decisions, saying they aim to impose dangerous and fundamental changes to the legal and administrative status of the occupied Palestinian territory, especially the West Bank, marking an unprecedented escalation in Israel’s annexation, colonial and displacement agenda.
The Arab League warned that the measures violate agreements signed between the Palestine Liberation Organization and Israel, including the Oslo Accords and the Hebron Agreement.
In a statement issued by the “Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Department,” the Arab League said the decisions constitute a flagrant breach of international law, UN Security Council resolutions, the Fourth Geneva Convention, the 1997 Hebron Agreement, and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice affirming the illegality of Israel’s occupation and the nullity of annexation.
The League cautioned against Israel’s attempt to impose what it calls “oversight and enforcement” on Palestinian buildings in Areas A and B under the pretext of protecting archaeological or heritage sites, describing it as a false legal cover for demolition, land seizure, and ethnic cleansing aimed at eroding Palestinian presence and imposing irreversible colonial facts on the ground. It also warned against any tampering with Islamic and Christian holy sites
It stressed that any interference in the Ibrahimi Mosque and the transfer of authority over it is completely unacceptable, and that Israel bears full responsibility for the consequences of continued attacks on holy sites.
The Arab League affirmed that these unilateral and illegal measures will not grant Israel any legitimacy and will not alter the fact that the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, is occupied Palestinian territory, and that all Israeli colonial activities are null and void with no legal effect.
It held the Israeli government fully responsible for the dangerous repercussions of these escalatory policies and called on the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to take immediate and decisive action to halt these violations and ensure the protection of the Palestinian people, their land, and their holy sites.
The League reiterated its firm support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self‑determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
