On the first day of 2024, and just as the region entered January 1, the Israeli army fired barrages of missiles and shells at various parts of the Gaza Strip, killing and wounding dozens of Palestinians.

The Israeli army fired missiles and shells at several parts of central Gaza, including the area around Abu Daoud Mosque in Nusseirat refugee camp, killing and wounding many Palestinians.

The Israeli army also continued the extensive bombings of all areas of central Gaza, including the refugee camps of Al-Boreij, Al-Maghazi, and Nusseirat, in addition to the villages of Al-Mighraqa and the Zawaida.

Many Palestinians, mostly children, were injured, some seriously, when the army fired missiles at homes in the Al-Maghazi refugee camp and the Nusseirat refugee camp.


In Deir Al-Balah, in central Gaza, four Palestinians were killed, and many were injured when the army fired a missile at a home for the Abu Al-Ata family.

At least six Palestinians were killed, and dozens were injured when the army fired missiles at a home and a school, where dozens of families sheltered, in the Salahuddin Street area in Deir Al-Balah city where the army also fired many missiles and shells at homes and buildings.

It is worth mentioning that the wife of the former Minister of Waqf and Islamic Endowment, the Imam of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Yousef Salama, succumbed to serious wounds she suffered when the army fired a missile at her home in the Al-Maghazi refugee camp on Sunday, killing her husband.

The army also continued the bombing of various areas in northern Gaza, especially in and around Jabalia and the Jabalia refugee camp, causing dozens of casualties, while medics and rescue teams have been unable to enter most of the bombarded area.


In Gaza City, the army fired many artillery shells and missiles at several parts of the city, killing many Palestinians and wounding dozens, in bombings targeting homes and junctions in the Zeitoun neighborhood, east of Gaza City.

Furthermore, barrages of Israeli missiles struck homes and buildings in the neighborhoods of Saftawi, Tuffah, Daraj, Sheja’eyya, and Sheikh Radwan shortly after the army withdrew its tanks from the area, leading to dozens of casualties.

One of the slain Palestinians in the Saftawi neighborhood in Gaza, an orthopedic surgeon at the Indonesia Hospital, Dr. Ahmad Matar, was killed along with three of his children, while his wife and two of their children were injured by an Israeli tank shell targeting their home.

Furthermore, many Palestinians were killed and several others injured when the army fired shells at the Doula Junction in the eastern part of Gaza City.


At least six Palestinians were killed, and many were injured when the army fired missiles at Al-Mighraqa village southwest of Gaza City.

Israeli missiles and shells also killed twenty Palestinians and injured dozens near the Al-Aqsa University, in addition to killing 15 near the Islamic University and 48 in the Zeitoun neighborhood in Gaza City.

In Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, the army fired missiles and shells at several parts of the city and a home for the Abu Hatab family near Bilal Mosque, west of the city, in addition to Qeizan Rashwan neighborhood, southeast of Khan Younis, causing dozens of casualties.


The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said Israel’s missiles and shells have killed at least 38 Palestinians and injured dozens in just the first few hours of the new year in that area alone.

The PRCS added that many Palestinians have also been killed and injured on Al-Bahar Street in Khan Younis, adding that the constant bombing is obstructing rescue efforts.


Despite the constant Israeli onslaught and the bombing of every part of the coastal enclave, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, said it fired twenty shells at Tel Aviv.

Israeli has now killed at least 21,822 Palestinians and injured more than 56,451, largely women and children, in addition to the thousands of Palestinians who remain missing, mainly buried under the rubble of bombarded homes and buildings, since October 7.
