A ceasefire agreement was reached through Egyptian medication between Palestinian factions and leadership in Gaza and Israeli officials.

Media sources said the ceasefire agreement went into effect at four at dawn Wednesday after certain ‘understandings’ were reached through Egyptian mediators.

Sources in Egypt said the agreement is conditional on Israel’s cessation of firing missiles and shells into Gaza, and in return, Palestinian resistance factions will abide by the deal.

However, there have been no statements regarding the details of this agreement or whether Israel will ease restrictions and its siege on the coastal region and effectively remains as an agreement to prevent further escalation of a full-blown offensive.

The agreement came hours after Israel bombarded many parts of the Gaza Strip in retaliation to what it called “the firing of shells from the coastal enclave into nearby Israeli areas.”

The Islamic Jihad in Gaza said it fired many shells into Israeli areas to retaliate to the death of Khader Adnan, 45, a political figure of the group, who died in an Israeli prison after 86 days of hunger strike.

Late Tuesday, the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that Israeli missiles and shells have injured six Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
