The Israeli assault on Gaza continued non-stop throughout the day and night Wednesday, with Palestinians continue to flee for their lives and suffer under a crushing blockade that has caused widespread malnutrition, starvation and preventable infectious diseases. US and other international logistics companies are now trying to charge exorbitant amounts of money to bring aid in to the starving population, while Israeli forces keep the borders tightly sealed with no aid allowed to enter.

According to Al Jazeera, at least 93 people were killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip on Wednesday. Al Jazeera reported that Israeli forces continued their bombardment of Gaza with a series of deadly attacks, including a strike on a warehouse housing displaced Palestinians in Deir el-Balah which has killed at least nine people.

At least four people were killed by an Israeli air strike on a house in the as-Saftawi area near Gaza City in northern Gaza. Israeli forces have continued their siege on northern Gaza’s al-Awda Hospital, with tanks firing on hospital buildings, including the specialised surgery department. The Israeli army has allowed around 90 aid trucks to enter Gaza, the first to do so in months, but UN officials have called the shipment a “drop in the ocean” of what is needed.

The Palestinian government’s emergency operations room in the southern governorates confirmed that what Israel is promoting regarding opening the crossings and allowing the entry of humanitarian aid is completely false, as the crossings have been closed for the 83rd consecutive day, amid escalating crimes of genocide.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the agency condemned the continued closure of the crossings, despite the Israeli occupation’s claims days ago that it was allowing the flow of humanitarian and medical aid, noting that all trucks remain stuck and have not yet been allowed to enter. According to the Palestinian agency, this procrastination appears deliberate on the part of the Israeli government, as part of a prelude to the implementation of a new Israeli plan aimed at neutralizing UN agencies working in the humanitarian field and militarizing aid. A number of private logistics companies have already begun communicating with humanitarian organizations, offering their services to transport aid into the Gaza Strip. The aid would be delivered to specific entities at a hefty cost exceeding 130,000 shekels per truck.

The Operations Room called on the international community and United Nations institutions to urgently intervene to permanently end the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip, halt the war of extermination against civilians, and save the lives of innocent children, women, the elderly, and the sick, who face daily death threats due to the depletion of medicines and the disruption of most hospitals.

The agency also stressed the need to deliver humanitarian aid only through UN agencies, warning of the repercussions of the ongoing policy of starvation, thirst, mass killing, and forced displacement, which is causing hundreds of deaths daily, including families completely wiped out and erased from the civil registry, in addition to the spread of disease and malnutrition among citizens of all ages.

UNRWA spokesperson Louise Waterridge said that hunger in Gaza is only part of the horrors that the people there are currently experiencing.

During her online participation in the weekly press conference of the United Nations Office in Geneva, she stated that there is enough food in UNRWA warehouses in the Jordanian capital, Amman, to feed 200,000 people for a month. The problem is getting it into Gaza with the Israeli blockade in place. She added: “Aid is three hours away from the Gaza Strip, yet we still see pictures of malnourished children and hear stories of dire living conditions. These supplies should be in Gaza by now. There is no time to waste .”

Waterridge said that after 11 weeks of Israeli authorities tightening their blockade on the Gaza Strip, only five trucks were allowed to enter – a tiny fraction of the thousands that are needed and waiting to enter..

The Israeli occupation authorities continue their systematic starvation policy targeting approximately 2.4 million people in Gaza, closing the crossings to aid supplies piling up on the border since March 2nd, plunging the Strip into famine and claiming the lives of many Palestinian civilians – children and babies in particular, as they are especially prone to the impact of malnutrition.
