On Tuesday, Israeli forces shot a journalist and a child with live ammunition during a demonstration held by displaced Palestinians in the Nur Shams refugee camp, east of Tulkarem in the northwestern part of the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported that the photojournalist, Fadi Yassin (47 years old) was shot in the leg with live ammunition, and a child (12 years old) was struck in the neck with live bullet fragments.

Al Jazeera correspondent Laith Jaar, reported that he and photojournalist, Fadi Yassin, were covering the protest organized by displaced citizens demanding to return to their homes in the Nur Shams camp.

Jaar added that an Israeli sniper fired directly at the demonstrators, shooting the photojournalist, Fadi Yassin once in each leg; he was transported to the Martyr Thabet Thabet Governmental Hospital in Tulkarem for treatment.

Media sources reported that occupation forces detained and interrogated journalist, Mahmoud Fawzi, in addition to assaulting and abusing citizens while pointing their automatic rifles at them.

Dozens of Palestinians gathered at the Martyr Saif Abu Labda roundabout near camp’s entrance, to demand to return to their homes after being forcibly displaced from 283 days ago.

It is important to mention that hundreds of citizens gathered at the entrance to the Nur Shams camp last week demanding their right return to their homes in the camp.

In January 2025, occupation forces besieged and attacked the Tulkarem and Nur Shams refugee camps, after carrying out a military operation in the Jenin refugee camp.

These Israeli operations have resulted in the displacement of 50,000 Palestinians and the destruction of thousands of homes, in addition to the devastation of vital infrastructure.
