Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces have launched an aggression against the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of 54,381 citizens, the majority of whom were children and women, and the injury of 124,054 others. Member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Chairman of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, Ramzi Khoury, welcomed the appeal of Pope Leo XIV and the statements of Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin regarding Gaza, considering them to reflect a humanitarian and moral stance that requires the international community to heed and take urgent action .
The Holy See renewed its painful appeal for Gaza, noting the weeping of mothers and fathers as they cradle the bodies of their children, and the suffering of those forced to move in search of shelter or food. It called for an immediate ceasefire and the full release of hostages, saying : “From the Gaza Strip, the cries of mothers and fathers rise ever more high above the heavens: let the firing cease, let all hostages be released, let humanitarian law be fully respected.”
For his part, Cardinal Parolin stressed in an interview with the Vatican’s office for Communications that what is happening in Gaza is unacceptable, with children dying of hunger and bombs falling on schools and hospitals. He stressed the need to stop the bombing, allow humanitarian aid in, and respect international humanitarian law by all parties. The situation in Gaza was at the forefront of the topics addressed in the interview.
Khoury emphasized that these positions, stemming from the human conscience, represent a moral voice that must not be left alone, but rather must be translated into practical steps on the ground, beginning with halting the Israeli aggression, lifting the siege, and opening humanitarian corridors.
Also Saturday, mass demonstrations were held in cities around the world condemning the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
In this context, hundreds of thousands participated in demonstrations held in the French capital, Paris; the German capital, Berlin; the Italian city of Milan; Geneva, Switzerland; Athens, Greece; Sofia, Bulgaria; Manchester, Britain; Helsingborg, Sweden; Hilversum, the Netherlands; Aarhus, Denmark; and the capital, Copenhagen, in support of the Palestinian people and to demand an immediate ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

He cited reports from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), which confirmed that the situation has never been more dire.
Dujarric also addressed Israel’s forced evacuation of Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza and the ongoing mass displacement of civilians. In the past two weeks alone, approximately 200,000 people have been forcibly displaced.
Despite severe Israeli restrictions on aid deliveries, the UN and its partners continue efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza. However, the need for aid has reached unprecedented levels, with 80 days of near-total blockade preventing essential supplies from entering.
The limited aid shipments currently allowed into Gaza remain insufficient to support the 2.1 million people in desperate need of life-saving assistance.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that a ceasefire agreement on Gaza was “very close.”
On its part, Hamas confirmed that it is consulting with Palestinian factions regarding a ceasefire proposal presented by U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.
Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir stated that a ceasefire should be pursued if a deal is possible, emphasizing the need to avoid an endless war.
At the same time, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs introduced a large-scale humanitarian aid plan for Gaza. He acknowledged the challenging conditions but affirmed that the UN and its partners know how to implement the plan, stressing that global pressure is mounting for immediate action.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini issued a statement to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, saying that Israel has made serious accusations against UNRWA for over a year, without evidence.
The trickle of aid being let in to #Gaza is piling up, out of our reach.
Insecurity, delays, blocked routes, restrictions on where we can deliver and desperate crowds make delivery near impossible.
Our work is obstructed.

Lazzarini further noted that the Israeli government has not provided sufficient evidence to the United Nations, nor has it initiated any specific criminal proceedings.
Israel continues to enforce starvation tactics against 2.4 million Palestinians in Gaza by blocking humanitarian aid, particularly food supplies, since March 2, according to the Gaza Government Media Office.
As famine worsens, Israel’s aid distribution plan has collapsed. On Tuesday and Wednesday, desperate Palestinians rushed to an aid center, seeking food for their starving children. Israeli forces opened fire, killing 10 civilians and injuring 62 others, forcing the aid organization to halt operations temporarily.
Since Israel broke the ceasefire on March 18, 2025, the Israeli army has killed more than 4,000 Palestinians and injured at least 11,000.
The overall death toll in Gaza has now exceeded 54,321, including at least 16,505 children, 9,800 women, and 248 journalists. The number of injuries has surpassed 123,770, with thousands still trapped under the rubble, unable to access critical medical aid.
