Israeli occupation forces shot and killed a Palestinian teacher early Saturday during an invasion of the Jenin refugee camp, in Jenin in the occupied West Bank’s northern part, the Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed.
The victim was identified as Noureddin Kamal Hassan Fayyad, 34, a schoolteacher, husband, and father of one child.
Local sources said Israeli soldiers invaded the refugee camp before dawn and opened live fire at Fayyad, killing him instantly.
The army maintained tight control over the area, blocking access and preventing residents and medics from approaching.
The Israeli military told Agence France‑Presse that its forces had “spotted a person attempting to enter the Jenin refugee camp,” an area placed under strict military control.
According to the army’s account, soldiers fired “warning shots” before shooting the man when he “did not comply.”
The family, however, rejected the Israeli narrative. His father, Kamal Fayyad, said his son — a teacher at the UNRWA‑run Jenin Primary School — had left home before dawn to visit the grave of a close friend and brother‑in‑law in the refugee camp cemetery.
He added that his slain son, the father of a young boy named Mahmoud, had promised his wife he would visit her brother’s grave, who was also killed by the Israeli army.
“But then we heard the gunfire, and we did not know what had happened until we were later informed of his death,” the father said.
He stressed that his son “was not armed” and had never carried a weapon, accusing Israeli forces of using excessive force against an unarmed civilian. He added that the body showed clear signs of beating on the abdomen and shoulder, along with several live‑ammunition wounds to the thigh and legs.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society confirmed that its crews in Jenin received Fayyad’s body from Israeli forces.
Medics reported that he had been shot with live ammunition in the thigh and showed no signs of life upon transfer to the hospital.
Later in the day, residents of Jenin held a funeral procession in the nearby Wadi Burqin area, carrying Fayyad’s body wrapped in the Palestinian flag.
The several armored Israeli military vehicles invaded the town, before the soldiers invaded the slain man’s home and ransacked it while interrogating the family.
The Jenin refugee camp has faced repeated Israeli invasions, including home invasions, abductions, as part of an intensified military campaign across the northern West Bank.
With Fayyad’s killing, the number of Palestinians killed in Jenin governorate since the start of the Israeli offensive in the city and its refugee camp on January 21, 2025, has risen to 65.
Since the beginning of 2026, Israeli soldiers and illegal paramilitary colonizers have killed 62 Palestinians, including 15 children, 5 women, 1 journalist, and 17 Palestinians killed by colonizers.
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli occupation forces and paramilitary colonizers have killed 1,166 Palestinians in the West Bank, including 244 children, 28 women, and 2 journalists, with 55 killed by colonizers.
