An Israeli soldier was killed, and an Arab youth was injured in a shooting attack by two possible assailants, on Sunday, in the northern Jordan Valley.

Media sources said that at least one Palestinian gunman, on Sunday afternoon, opened fire towards Israeli vehicles near the illegal Mehola settlement on Route 90, in the northern Jordan Valley.

Sources identified the Israeli citizen, Yonatan Deutsch, 23, as the victim, while a second Israeli in a separate vehicle was injured with bullet fragments and was transported to Rambam Hospital in Israel.

Sources added that occupation forces initiated a manhunt for the shooter and stormed several towns and villages in the northern Jordan Valley.

The Israeli army released a statement indicating that the vehicle involved in the operation was carrying two gunmen who opened fire towards Israeli vehicles, shooting two citizens.

The army stormed the villages of Kardala and Bardala, began a search operation, and closed the Tayasir and Al-Hamra military roadblocks in the northern Jordan Valley.

The Al-Qassam Brigades released a statement that “Al-Qassam fighters in the West Bank were able this afternoon to eliminate one of the Zionist soldiers from zero distance near the ‘Mehola’ settlement in the northern Jordan Valley and returned to their bases safely.”

The statement added that the 23-year-old Deutsch, who was killed in the attack, was a “Zionist soldier”.
