A Palestinian official announced, on Tuesday, that the relationship between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the Israeli occupation will resume, the Palestinian WAFA News Agency reported.
Chairman of the General Authority for Civil Affairs and member of Fatah Central Committee, Hussein Al-Sheikh, declared that Israel has reaffirmed its commitment to all previous signed agreements.
Al-Sheikh said that the relationship with Israel will return to the way it was prior to May, 19 2020.
WAFA also reported that Nabil Abu Rudeineh, the spokesman for the Palestinian presidency, said that the leadership is awaiting the position of the US president-elect Joe Biden’s administration regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Rudeineh added that President Abbas is determined to organize an international peace conference, with the goal of ending Israel’s occupation of Palestine, and establishing an independent Palestinian state.
In the besieged Gaza Strip, the Hamas Movement criticized the PA’s decision to restore ties with Israel in a statement Tuesday, the Palestinian Information Center reported.
The statement asserted that the PA’s unilateral move goes against the collective Palestinian principles and values, and undermines the resolute efforts towards national unity, necessary to confront the occupation, annexation, and normalization.
It demanded that PA to rescind its decision, and called for “real national unity based on a comprehensive national program that stems from the strategy of confrontation with the criminal occupation will only liberate the land, protect rights and expel the occupation.”
