The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex‑Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society announced on Thursday the names of three detainees from the Gaza Strip who died in Israeli prisons and military camps in recent months.

The three detainees have been officially identified as Tayseer Saeed al‑Abed Sababa, 60, Khamis Shukri Ashour, 44, and Khalil Ahmad Khalil Haniyya, 35.

According to the statement, Sababa’s family was formally notified by the Israeli human rights organization HaMoked following a military response, while the Commission and Prisoners’ Society received official replies confirming the deaths of Ashour and Haniyya.

The replies indicated that Sababa died on December 31, 2024, two months after his detention; Ashour died on February 8, 2024, just one day after his detention; and Haniyya died on December 25, 2024, nearly a year after his detention.

Sababa was the father of nine children, Ashour the father of six, and Haniyya the father of four.

The two organizations stressed that these men are part of dozens of detainees who have died since the start of what they described as Israel’s genocidal war, citing torture, starvation, medical neglect, sexual assaults, and systematic violations of human rights.

They noted that many Gaza detainees remain under enforced disappearance, while others were executed in the field.

Images of bodies returned after the ceasefire, they said, provide evidence of systematic executions.

The number of detainees killed since the start of the genocide has surpassed 100, with 84 identities confirmed, including 50 from Gaza.

The Commission and Prisoners’ Society held Israel fully responsible for these deaths and called on the international human rights system to take effective measures to prosecute Israeli leaders for war crimes against detainees and the Palestinian people.

They condemned decades of impunity granted by the United States and other powers, which they said reached its peak during the current war despite clear evidence of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

They further emphasized that Israel’s prison system is carrying out a policy of “slow execution,” marking the bloodiest phase in the history of the Palestinian detainees’ movement. This comes amid attempts by Israel to legalize the execution of Palestinian detainees and turn it into official policy.

The statement also highlighted that the vast majority of detainees are held without trial, either under arbitrary administrative detention or classified by Israel as “unlawful combatants.”

As of late November 2025, more than 11,100 Palestinians are held in Israeli custody, including over 400 children, at least 53 women, and elected officials.

This figure represents the highest number of detainees since the Second Intifada and does not include thousands of Gazans held in military camps under conditions of enforced disappearance.
