Israeli warplanes carried out a strike in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday evening, killing two Palestinians and wounding several others in the city of Khan Younis, as the overall death toll from the ongoing Israeli violations continued to climb.
The attack targeted civilians gathered at a café in the coastal Al‑Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, where an Israeli military drone fired at least one missile toward the site.
Eyewitnesses said the strike hit a group of Palestinians sitting outside the café, causing immediate fatalities and multiple injuries.
Medical teams at Nasser Medical Complex confirmed the arrival of the bodies of two Palestinians and several wounded, including cases described as critical.
The latest strike in Khan Younis comes amid continued Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, where displaced families, medical teams, and civil defense crews remain overwhelmed by the scale of destruction and the ongoing humanitarian collapse.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that hospitals received two slain Palestinians and five wounded in the past 24 hours.
An additional six Palestinians were added to the cumulative death toll after succumbing to wounds sustained in earlier attacks, following the completion of their medical documentation.
The ministry stressed that many victims remain trapped under rubble and in streets that rescue teams cannot reach due to ongoing bombardment, destroyed roads, and the collapse of civil defense capacity.
The Ministry of Health also warned that it may be forced to halt the medical referral system if restrictions on patient travel are not eased.
According to the ministry, since February 2026 it has submitted dozens of medical referral lists through the World Health Organization, covering thousands of patients who urgently require treatment outside Gaza.
Most have received no response, and approvals are not issued in the order the lists were submitted, prolonging suffering and delaying life‑saving care.
The ministry said it will begin publishing the numbers and dates of pending referral lists to ensure transparency and accountability, while refraining from publishing patient names to protect their privacy.
It reaffirmed its readiness to provide all relevant information to official, legal, and journalistic bodies regarding the referral system and the mechanisms used to determine medical priorities.
Since the declared “ceasefire” on October 10, 2025, the ministry has documented 1,005 Palestinians killed and 3,157 wounded, in addition to 784 bodies recovered from various areas of the Strip.
The overall death toll from the genocide in the Gaza Strip has now reached 73,016 Palestinians killed and 173,265 wounded since October 7, 2023.
