Oxygen station at al-Quds Hospital ‘out of order after Israeli attack’

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has said the oxygen station at the al-Quds Field Hospital in the Tal al-Hawa area of Gaza City has stopped operating after coming under fire by Israeli forces.

The group said medics were now relying on pre-filled oxygen cylinders that are only sufficient for three days.

It said Israeli soldiers remained stationed at the southern gate of the hospital, preventing entry and exit.

Palestinians forced to flee Gaza City under constant threat of attack

The situation continues to deteriorate, especially in the heart of Gaza City where Israeli forces have been using artillery shelling and quadcopters to push more Palestinians to evacuate to the south and middle areas.

Israeli forces continue to use explosive-laden vehicles to destroy houses. There have been endless appeals from Palestinian families saying their relatives are stuck under the rubble, but no one can reach them.

More Palestinians have also become homeless after evacuating to the middle areas under constant bombardment. They were forced to walk under the sun from Gaza City towards the central part of Gaza without food or shelter.

UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY NEWS & HEADLINES:

Some notable comments on opening day of UNGA

SEC’Y GENERAL GUTERRES: “In Gaza, the horrors are approaching a third monstrous year.  They are the result of decisions that defy basic humanity. The scale of death and destruction are beyond any other conflict in my years as Secretary-General. The International Court of Justice has issued legally binding provisional measures in the case named: ‘Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip.’ Since then, a famine has been declared, and the killing has intensified. The measures stipulated by the ICJ must be implemented — fully and immediately.”

PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY: We highly appreciate the positions of the countries that have recognized the State of Palestine, and we call on those who have not yet done so to take this step, and we demand support for Palestine to gain full membership in the United Nations. It should be recalled that we already recognized Israel’s right to exist in 1988 and 1993, and we continue to do so.

BRAZIL: “We can see that international humanitarian law and the myth of ethical exceptionalism of the West are being buried. Nothing, absolutely nothing, justifies the ongoing genocide in Gaza. This massacre would not have happened without the complicity of those who could have prevented it…The Palestinian people are at risk of disappearing. They will only survive with an independent state integrated into the international community.”

CROATIA: “[Palestinian statehood] is not a reward; it is their right…Israel will continue killing; this is a deadly regime, because they have decided they can do so as long as they have a protector.”

DENMARK: “[Israel has created] a humanitarian catastrophe of unbearable scale. The keys to recognition of the Palestinian state should no longer lie in the hands of the Israeli government. The time for the end of this decades-long struggle is now.”

FRANCE: “If [Israel imposes sanctions on France over its recognition of Palestine], we would respond, we would be ready. We are ready for everything. But I believe that in this moment, we must choose a path of peace and a path of friendship. If the war also continues in Gaza City, if the armies continue today to push forward and kill civilians, we cannot remain passive.

“[If Israel continues to destroy Gaza] there is one person who can do something: the American president…Because we do not supply weapons that allow the war in Gaza…The Nobel Peace Prize is only possible if you stop this conflict. And so pressure must be put on the Israeli government to stop the conflict in Gaza.”

JAPAN: “Japan fully supports the aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish their own independent state. Should Israel take further actions that block the path to the realization of a two-state solution, Japan will be compelled to introduce new measures and a response. Japan has consistently supported a two-state solution. For my country, the issue of recognizing a Palestinian state is not a matter of if but when.”

SLOVENIA: “[Gaza has become] a textbook example of failure of the international community. [It is] the deadliest place for children, the deadliest place for humanitarian and medical workers, and the deadliest place for journalists…[Let us] not let our collective future be defined by the stain of the Gaza genocide. Act now.”

SOUTH AFRICA: “There is growing global consensus that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza…Palestinians deserve a peaceful state alongside a peaceful Israel…Many nations in the world are calling for that, and that is the voice that we believe that Israel should heed.”

SOUTH KOREA: “[The situation in Gaza is] one of the greatest challenges to international peace and security. The immense scale of human suffering and the implications for regional stability demand our urgent and united attention.”

TURKIYE: “With a heavy heart, with my heart bleeding here, I’m telling you, innocent little ones, just two or three years old without hands arms or legs have unfortunately become a common sight to see in Gaza. Israel has cruelly killed one child every hour in Gaza for the past 23 months.

“This is not a fight against terrorism. This is an occupation carried out by utilizing the October 7 incident. It is the deportation, exile, genocide, or more accurately, a policy of mass slaughter. This represents the lowest point of humanity. Human history has not witnessed such bloodshed in the last century.”

UNITED STATES: As everyone knows, I have also been deeply engaged in seeking a cease-fire in Gaza. Have to get that done. Have to get it done. Unfortunately, Hamas has repeatedly rejected reasonable offers to make peace*. We can’t forget Oct. 7, can we?**

Now, as if to encourage continued conflict, some of this body is seeking to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state. The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for their atrocities. This would be a reward for these horrible atrocities, including Oct. 7…But instead of giving in to Hamas’s ransom demands, those who want peace should be united with one message: Release the hostages now. Just release the hostages now.

*NOTE: President Trump’s claim is completely false: Netanyahu is the one who has repeatedly delayed ceasefire agreements – he has said as much; Israeli media report it as well. Additionally, Israel unilaterally ended the January 2024 ceasefire (after violating it almost a thousand times and killing at least 170 Palestinians in Gaza).

Israel has also assassinated Gaza’s chief ceasefire negotiator, and attempted to assassinate the entire negotiating team. It is also worth noting that about 130 of the hostages were freed due to negotiations; dozens have been killed in Israeli military operations.

**NOTE: Israel’s narrative has it that Hamas “started a war” on October 7th, implying that on October 6th there was peace. In reality, Israel has been at war with the Palestinian people since its creation. Hamas was exercising – albeit imperfectly – its internationally recognized right to resist the oppressor and occupier of its people.

For years, Palestinians have tried rational, peaceful methods of achieving justice: they have petitioned the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice. They have held thousands of peaceful protests during which, Israeli soldiers would shoot to kill. In the UN the United States always exercises veto power in Israel’s favor

UN Commission of Inquiry says Israel seeks permanent control of Gaza, Jewish majority in Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel

The Israeli government has demonstrated a clear and consistent intent to establish permanent control over the Gaza Strip while ensuring a Jewish majority in the occupied West Bank and inside Israel, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel said in a new report today.

The Commission investigated developments relating to land and housing in all areas of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and in Israel. The report provides relevant historical background, identifying historical origins to processes of land confiscation, population displacement, discrimination in land and housing, and construction and expansion of settlements (continue reading here; find full report here).

UN experts call for suspension of Israel from international football amid unfolding genocide in occupied Palestine

UN experts today called on the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to suspend Israel as a country team from international football, as a necessary response to address the ongoing genocide in the occupied Palestinian territory.

“The conclusion of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and Israel, that Israel is committing genocide is the latest in a growing number of international bodies affirming that genocide is being committed in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The ICJ’s Interim Order of 26 January 2024 reminded every country of its legal obligations to act against genocide,” the experts said.

UK reveals conditions for Palestinian statehood: Report

The UK is conditioning its recognition of Palestine as a state on an “overhaul” of the Palestinian education system and an end to the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) stipends to the families of prisoners, The Telegraph reported on 23 September.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is insisting on an end to what Israel calls the “pay to slay” policy, the report said. For years, the PA paid stipends to the families of Palestinian prisoners jailed for resistance attacks against Israeli forces and or killed by troops. As a result, Ramallah was accused of “encouraging terrorism” for years. Reports have said that Ramallah has already canceled this welfare system.*

PA President Mahmoud Abbas is also “under pressure to drive through reforms to the Palestinian school curriculum, which reportedly includes content critical of the Israeli occupation, prompting charges of antisemitism** from Tel Aviv (continue reading here).

*NOTE: Thanks to a yearslong program of indoctrination by pro-Israel organizations, the word “antisemitism” has taken on a new, distorted meaning that can include nearly all criticism of Israel – in other words, disapproval of the self-proclaimed “Jewish State” may be incorrectly labeled antisemitic.

Zionism, the ideology on which Israel is built, is not a benign philosophy, but a supremacist ideology – the ideology under which 750,000 Palestinian people were dispossessed and exiled to Gaza and other locations. The so-called “demonization” of Israel is in most cases a legitimate criticism of Israel’s policies of occupation, apartheid, genocide, and other illegal practices.

Hundreds of Israelis storm Al-Aqsa Mosque on Jewish New Year

Hundreds of ultranationalist Israelis stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem on Tuesday, coinciding with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

Groups of settlers entered the mosque complex under the protection of heavily armed Israeli forces, and openly performed Jewish prayers and religious rituals at the site. They also sang and danced.

These actions violate longstanding international agreements – known as the status quo – which designate Al-Aqsa Mosque as an exclusively Islamic site, where only Muslims are permitted to worship.

Israeli incursions into the mosque complex have become a near-daily occurrence.

Israel Expanding Support of Anti-Hamas Militias in Gaza, Including ISIS-Linked Group

Israeli forces are supporting armed Palestinian groups that are opposed to Hamas. The groups have established two areas outside of Hamas’ control. One of the militias, Abu Shabab, is tied to the Islamic State.

A new Palestinian armed militia, Strike Force Against Terror, announced it is prepared for 300-400 people to live in a neighborhood of Khan Younis under its control. “[Israel] help[s] us expand. The goal is the same — that people live under our protection, in agreement with our neighbors,” a commander in the militia explained (continue reading here).

Israel threatens Gaza Sumud Flotilla again

Earlier this week, Israel’s Foreign Ministry warned the vessels from approaching Gaza’s coast, saying it should transfer the aid to Ashkelon port. The Global Sumud Flotilla on Tuesday rejected the demand, describing the request as part of Tel Aviv’s long-standing blockade of the Palestinian enclave.

On Tuesday, the ministry issued another threat, saying, “If the flotilla continues to reject Israel’s peaceful proposal, Israel will take the necessary measures to prevent its entry into the combat zone and to stop any violation of a lawful naval blockade.”

Over 15 drones hovered over boat in Global Sumud humanitarian aid flotilla

The Global Sumud Flotilla said Tuesday evening that more than 15 drones flew at low altitude over one of its boats for hours, calling the move an attempt to intimidate the humanitarian aid flotilla and also a possible intelligence-gathering operation.

In a post on X, the flotilla said the drones appeared “roughly every 10 minutes” over a ship called the Alma.

“We believe these drones are intended to intimidate, potentially gathering intelligence for Israel,” the group said.

British officials fear Trump could recognize Israeli West Bank settlements*

British officials fear Donald Trump could recognize Israeli control over illegal settlements on the West Bank – a serious blow to achieving a two-state solution – in retaliation for the UK, Australia, France and others deciding to recognize Palestine.

Trump made passing reference to Palestinian recognition during a fiery speech at the UN on Tuesday, saying: “This would be a reward for these horrible atrocities, including October 7.”

UK officials said some of the president’s allies were putting pressure on him to recognize Israeli sovereignty over settlements in the West Bank, and Arab leaders were pushing back (continue reading here).

*NOTE: Israel has illegally built around 280 settlements on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, which are home to more than 700,000 illegal settlers. Some settler groups have a history of violence against Palestinians, often with the assistance of Israeli military forces (a phenomenon that has grown significantly worse since October 7th, 2023).

In a landmark advisory opinion on July 19, 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s decades-long occupation of Palestinian land “illegal” and demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
