The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) called for a sustained ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to enable the return of children to a safe educational environment, following two years of war, displacement, and psychological trauma inflicted by Israeli military operations.

John Whyte, Deputy Director of UNRWA Affairs in Gaza, stated via the agency’s official X account that “Palestinian children in Gaza need education, and we must do everything possible to make that happen.”

Whyte emphasized that UNRWA remains the largest provider of emergency education in Gaza and is working to reopen schools and create safe learning spaces. Since the latest ceasefire, UNRWA teams have been able to reach approximately 10,000 children daily—down from 60,000 during the previous truce.

He added that the agency is expanding its efforts to include online education, with up to 300,000 children expected to register for remote learning programs.

Whyte concluded by underscoring the urgency of maintaining the ceasefire to restore education for all children in Gaza, after enduring two years of war, trauma, and suffering.

Since the ceasefire took effect on October 11, 2025, the Israeli army has killed 89 Palestinians and injured 317. Additionally, the bodies of 449 Palestinians have been recovered from the rubble of bombarded homes and buildings.
