The number killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip during the month of October has reached 17, as a Palestinian succumbed, Saturday, to wounds sustained during a demonstration days before, Gaza’s ministry of health said.Spokesperson of the ministry of health, Ashraf al-Qidra, told Ma’an News Agency that Khalil Hassan Abu Obeid, 25, died after being injured by Israeli forces in eastern Khan Younis.
Obeid is the 17th Palestinian to be killed in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the month.
Fifteen have been shot with live ammunition during clashes, while a two-year-old and her pregnant mother were killed in an Israeli airstrike on their home.
Yesterday, Yihya Hashem Kreira, 20, died after being shot in the head by Israeli forces during clashes last week in the Nahal Oz area.
Clashes began to erupt inside of the Gaza Strip and along the border fence earlier this month as demonstrators marched in solidarity with Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Tensions initially escalated in the areas following the fatal shooting of two Israeli settlers on Oct. 1, reprisal settler attacks, as well as increased restrictions on Palestinian entry to Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that the third week of October held the highest number of injured in the Gaza Strip since the end of the war in 2014.
Yesterday at least 95 Palestinians were injured by live ammunition and rubber-coated steel bullets during clashes in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent and Gaza’s ministry of health.
