Palestinian media sources reported Sunday afternoon that two more people were killed and 11 others were wounded, bringing to four today’s death toll due to Hamas-Fatah clashes.Wafa News Agency reported that a shooting attack took place on Sunday mid-day near Gaza coast in western Gaza City.
Palestinian hospital sources confirmed death of two people and injury of ten others after being shot and wounded with gunshots.
Identities of the slains were not disclosed immediately.
Witnesses said that a group of Hamas members attacked security forces loyal to Fatah around the house of President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah in southwest Gaza city.
In the meantime, three other people were wounded after unknown gunmen sprayed a vehicle, belonging to the Palestinian electricity company, with several gunshots, while driving near the entrance of Almosadar village in central Gaza Strip.
Earlier on the day, two Fatah members were killed in northern Gaza after gunmen opened fire at them. Fatah accused Hamas of attacking its men, yet Hamas denied any relation to the killings.
These developments come just few hours after Palestinian interior minister, Hani aL-Qaqwasmi, an independent close to Hamas, announced commencement of his long-waited security plan to contain the volatile situation in Gaza.
Spokesman of the interior ministry, Khaled Abu Helal, told IMEMC earlier that the minister had suspended resignation and that he would command joint forces, comprised of the interior ministry’s and those loyal to President and Fatah’s leader, Mahmoud Abbas.
Approximately, 400 Palestinian residents have been killed over the past 14 months or after a Hamas-led government has taken power following last January’s parliamentary elections.
Hamas and Fatah who have been engaged in a fierce power struggle since then, formed in late February a power-sharing government.
