The Hamas movement slammed on Tuesday the Arab countries that took part in the World Economic Forum (WEF) alongside Israel, regarding such participation as a part of moves to normalize relations with Israel. The Hamas organization issued a statement arguing that the WEF, held recently in Jordan, came as part of a series of efforts on the part of various Arab states to normalize the relationship between themselves and Israel.

The statement described the said meetings as a fruitless move that would bring nothing with respect to peace.

The three-day conference was held in the Jordanian part of the Dead Sea amidst an ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza that has targeted members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

The Hamas statement demanded that the Arab countries to lift the internationally-approved economic embargo that has been imposed since the movement took power in last January’s parliamentary elections.

Despite the fact that Fatah and Hamas have established a unity government, sanctions still remain in place.
