Israeli soldiers and settlers clashed on Thursday evening at the West Bank settlement of Shavei Shomron after the army arrived to install a new gate in preparation for the upcoming Israeli withdrawal from four neighboring settlements.

Soldiers attempted to install an iron gate at the settlement exit, but settlers from Homesh and Sar-Nur, two of the four West Bank settlements slated for evacuation, clashed with them and prevented the installation, according to an Israeli military source.

“The assailants are criminals,” the army source said. “They are attacking soldiers who are sent to protect their lives.”

Residents of Sa-Nur settlement also prevented officials of the Israeli Defence Ministry and Disengagement Administration from entering the settlement while they were touring the West Bank settlements due for evacuation.
