The Israeli police in Jerusalem released Sheikh Taiseer Tameemy, head of the Islamic Religious Court, and Chief Islamic Clerk, after arresting him in Jerusalem and interrogating him for several hours.
The police claimed that Sheikh Tameemy entered Jerusalem and Al Aqsa Mosque without obtaining a permit from the Israeli Authorities. He was released several hours after his arrest.
Also, an Israeli police source claimed that Tameemy signed an affidavit to refrain from entering Jerusalem without a permit; the police intend to file charges against him.
Heads of Islamic religious courts denounced the arrest of Sheikh Tameemy and considered it as a violation against religious freedom in the Holy City.
“Sheikh Tameemy is the top Islamic Clerks in Palestine, arresting his is considered part of the continuous Israeli violations against the residents, and their holy places”, heads of Islamic courts said in a statement released on Wednesday, “Israeli violated and continues the international agreements of human rights and freedom of religion”.

Israeli soldiers arrested on Wednesday afternoon, Sheikh Taiseer Tameemy, head of the Religious Court at the Palestinian Anteriority, and took him to an unknown destination after claiming that he entered Jerusalem without obtaining an entry permit.
Yosry ‘Oleywi, head of the public relations department at the office of Tameemy, said that soldiers arrested him as he was leaving Al Aqsa Mosque, after attending a meeting with a number of religious figures in the city, and officials of Al Aqsa Mosque.
Sheikh Tameemy was taken to an unknown destination after he was informed that he was arrested for “entering Jerusalem illegally”.
