Israeli artillery fired on Saturday shortly after midnight at least 40 tank shells at open areas in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
An Israeli military source reported that the shelling comes in retaliation to the homemade shells which where fired at the Israeli Negev town of Sderot and settlements on the Gaza borders.
Israeli medical sources reported that four family members, including a toddler, were injured after one of the homemade shells hit a home Kibbutz Karmiya, in the western Negev, on Friday afternoon.
Israeli online daily Haaretz reported that a 7-month-old baby sustained moderate head wounds, while the other family members were lightly injured, and that the mother was in the first months of pregnancy.
The rocket directly hit the caravan, in which the family lived, bringing down a plaster wall.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Interior said that soldiers shelled residential areas in Beit Lahia, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
The shelled areas are located in the north and east of Beit Lahia. Most of the shells landed close to Palestinian security centers, damage was reported.
