Detainee Itaf Oleyyan told Ahmad Al Khateeb, the lawyer of Risalat Al Hoqouq Center that she has been on hunger strike for the last eight days in protest of the Israeli Prison Authorities (ISP) refusal to allow her to be with her infant, who is still breastfeeding.Oleyyan said in her statement to Khateeb that after she announced hunger strike on Monday February 20, 2006, the ISP transfered from Hasharon detention facility to Tfy Trusta prison.
She added that the manager of the prison came to her cell and attempted to force her stop her hunger strike. She conditions stopping the strike by allowing her to take care of her baby girl who is still breast-fed.
Prison administration is currently confining Oleyyan to solitary imprisonment.
Detainee Oleyyan appealed to the Israeli court against the decision of the Prison Manager to bar her from being with her child. She also said in her appeal that she is facing harsh treatment and bad living conditions.
Risalat Al Hoqouq Center appealed local, regional and international human rights organizations to launch a campaign in solidarity with Oleyyan and all female detainees in Israeli prisons.
The Center also demanded international law organizations to pressure Israel in order to stop the illegal administrative detention policy which allows the ISP to imprison the detainees for long periods without any charges or trial.
