The Israeli High Court of Justice ruled, on Wednesday, that it will allow Israel to complete the construction of the annexation wall surrounding Jerusalem.
Dozens of Palestinian petitioners appealed to the Israeli High Court of Justice in an attempt to delay the construction of the Wall near the villages of Bir Nibala, Beit Hanina, Al Jeeb, and Jdera, north of the Jerusalem.
High Court Justices, Aharon Barak, Miriam Naor and Esther Hayut ruled that the state should continue the construction of the Wall "since the Palestinians would no longer be restricted in their travel in the area".
Yet, on the ground, the residents have limited movement, isolated from the rest of the West Bank, and from the east of Jerusalem.
The justices said in their ruling that special roads for the travel of the Palestinians have been constructed in the area, and that a new checkpoint was installed between the northern and southern West Bank areas.
The Israeli prosecution told the court that these travel arrangements for the Palestinian residents are considered a "sufficient alternative to the routes that cross the Wall’s outline"
Israeli online daily, Haaretz, reported that these arrangements include a new road connecting Bir Nibala and Qalandia without entering the municipal area of Jerusalem and the new Qalandia terminal for both pedestrians and vehicles.
The Palestinian petitioners requested the High Court to issue an injunction forbidding the state to block the Bir Nibala-A Ram road, but the court rejected the petition.
High Court justices wrote in their decision that the prevention of passage from the al-Mawahal neighborhood into Jerusalem is an "essential security requirement".
Also, the court is expected to rule in the coming days on a Wall section near Dahiat Al Barid intersection.
