Unofficial reports by Hamas on Tuesday suggest that the party may have
chosen Minister of Health, Dr. Bassem Naim, to take the place of Prime
Minister Ismail Haniyeh as the new Palestinian prime minister.

Palestine News Network spoke to a Hamas official under the condition of anonymity, who said that the coalition government would be based on the National Prisoners’ Document, which would bring about a lifting of the seven month economic blockade.

The US has made no statements regarding this matter and nothing has been confirmed, but a change in government is expected to persuade the US to lift the blockade.

The source added Tuesday that Dr. Naim was chosen not for party loyalties, but because he is known as an efficient and highly capable Legislative Council member. There have been no comments by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to date.
