Israeli radio reported Monday that an Israeli and a Palestinian were hurt in a shootout in east Jerusalem.
According to the radio a Palestinian opened fire early on Monday at an Israeli car, wounding the driver in the arm, while a Palestinian bystander was hurt with shrapnel. No further details were reported about the incident.
East Jerusalem has been inhabited by Palestinians and Israelis since the holy city was occupied by Israel in 1967. International law considers the Israeli presence in the city illegal, while United Nations Security Council's resolution 242 of 1967, demands an immediate Israeli withdrawal from the city. Israel, instead, has been reinforcing presence by expanding settlements and building new ones, while it has been demolishing more Palestinian houses. In addition, Israel has further restricted Palestinian movement with the notorious separation barrier, deemed illegal by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
